Cookie Policy

Last updated: 24 September 2026

Working document. This policy describes what Northern Lights stores on your device today. It is written in good faith by the product team and is pending review by our legal counsel. We will replace it with the reviewed version once that review is complete.

Northern Lights stores a small amount of information on the device you use it from. All of it is set by Northern Lights itself and is there to make the product work or to remember a setting you chose.

We use no third-party cookies, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking across websites. Nothing on this list is used to profile you, and nothing is shared with an advertising network.

What we store, and why

Purpose What it does How long it stays
Signing you in Keeps you signed in between visits, and keeps a display screen paired with the site it shows. Handled by our sign-in provider, Auth0 Until you sign out, or until the session expires
Language and appearance Remembers the language you picked and whether you chose the light or dark theme Up to 12 months
Sign-in convenience Remembers your organization's short name, and the code of a display screen, so nobody has to retype them 30 days
Interface state Remembers notices you have dismissed, and keeps a deliberate reveal of sensitive information open while you work Up to 12 months, or a few minutes for a reveal

Some of this is stored as cookies and some in your browser's local storage. The rules are the same either way, so this page covers both.

Why we do not ask you to accept cookies

European rules require consent before a website may store anything on your device, with one exception: storage that is needed to deliver the service you asked for, or that only holds a setting you chose yourself. Everything in the table above falls in that exception. Because we run no analytics and no advertising, there is nothing here to consent to, and there is nothing to switch off.

If we ever add something that does need consent, we will ask you first and we will update this page before we do.

Removing what we store

Signing out removes what keeps you signed in. Beyond that, your browser can clear cookies and local storage for a site, usually under Settings, Privacy. Clearing them signs you out and resets your language, theme and dismissed notices to their defaults; nothing you created in Northern Lights is lost.

Changes to this policy

When we change what the product stores on your device, we update this page and change the date at the top.
